Former Congressman Swalwell Detained at San Francisco Airport Amid Probe

Security camera footage from San Francisco International Airport shows former Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell being detained by airport officials on August 15. The video captures Swalwell being approached as he exited a flight and subsequently escorted away by authorities.

According to a person familiar with the matter, federal agents seized electronic devices from Swalwell at the airport and later searched his residence in Washington, D.C. The actions are part of an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct. The source spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation publicly.

Swalwell, who had been a candidate for California governor, ended his campaign and resigned from Congress in April following accusations of sexual assault and harassment, which he has denied. The Manhattan District Attorney's office confirmed in April that it was investigating the former congressman after a former staffer alleged that Swalwell raped her at a New York City hotel in 2024.

Additionally, a lawyer representing Lonna Drewes, a California woman who accused Swalwell of rape in 2018, stated that his team is cooperating with all law enforcement agencies investigating the former congressman.
