Tamil Nadu Forms All-Woman SIT to Probe POCSO Case Against R. Veeramani
Tamil Nadu has set up an all-woman Special Investigation Team to probe the POCSO Act case involving Gem Granites chairman R. Veeramani.
The Tamil Nadu police have constituted an all-woman Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the POCSO Act case involving R. Veeramani, chairman of Gem Granites.
The order was issued on Friday, September 25, 2026, by Director General of Police and Head of the Police Force Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal. The DGP said the team had been formed to investigate the case and related matters effectively.
The four-member SIT comprises P.C. Thenmozhi, Additional Commissioner of Police, Central Crime Branch, Greater Chennai Police; Disha Mittal, Joint Commissioner of Police, West, Greater Chennai Police; J. Mutharasi, Superintendent of Police and Media Relations Officer in the Office of the DGP/HoPF, Tamil Nadu; and V.V. Geethanjali, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Against Women and Children, Greater Chennai Police.
The team will function under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police, who has been directed to provide the necessary manpower and logistics for the investigation.
The case has drawn wider political attention, with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin stating that the DMK regime did not protect anyone, and two IPS officers being moved out and placed on compulsory wait. A Tamil Nadu Congress leader has also said he informed the Chennai Police about the matter two years ago.
