Tamil Nadu CM Vijay heads to London on first overseas trip to woo investors

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will undertake his first official overseas visit since taking office, travelling to London on September 10, 2026. The week-long trip is aimed at showcasing the state as a prime investment destination and engaging with business leaders.

Mr. Vijay is scheduled to depart from Chennai airport on the night of September 10 and arrive in London the following day. His itinerary includes meetings with entrepreneurs and industrialists to discuss Tamil Nadu's investment potential. The visit is expected to culminate in the signing of several key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the state government and multinational companies.

This push for investments follows the recently concluded Vettri Tamil Nadu Investors' Conclave, where the government signed MoUs with 97 companies for projects worth ₹67,482 crore.

During his stay, the Chief Minister will also visit motorsport facilities and a circuit in London. This is linked to his recent announcement in the Assembly about establishing a modern motorsport city in Tamil Nadu. Additionally, Mr. Vijay will interact with members of the Tamil diaspora in London.

The Chief Minister will be accompanied by his Secretaries and senior officials from Guidance Tamil Nadu. He is expected to return to Chennai on the morning of September 17.

In light of the Chief Minister's absence, the launch of the state government's flagship welfare scheme, Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam, has been postponed. The scheme, which provides a one-gram gold ring to babies born in government hospitals, was originally scheduled to launch on September 15. The expansion of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme to students in Classes VI to VIII, planned for September 17, is also likely to be deferred.
