Tamil Nadu's Own Dengue Tally Runs Higher Than National Figures

Tamil Nadu has released its own dengue case numbers, and they are markedly higher than those compiled by the National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC).

The State Health department's figures put the case count at 56,863 in 2023, 46,971 in 2024 and 25,585 in 2025. Each of these totals exceeds the corresponding number published by the national centre.

The gap between the two sets of figures points to a difference in how dengue cases are recorded and reported at the state and national levels. The state's data, drawn from its own surveillance and reporting network, captures a larger volume of cases than the national compilation.

The newly public state figures cover a three-year span, showing a decline from 2023 to 2025 in absolute terms. The 2025 count of 25,585 is the lowest of the three years for which the state has now released data.

Dengue remains a significant public health concern in Tamil Nadu, with cases typically rising during and after the monsoon months. The release of the state's own numbers adds a fuller picture of the disease burden than the national figures alone provide.
