Tamil Nadu industrialist faces wider POCSO probe as fresh evidence surfaces
A court-ordered fresh probe has led police to new digital evidence and multiple victims in the POCSO investigation against an influential Tamil Nadu industrialist.
An influential industrialist is at the centre of a widening investigation under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, following allegations of paedophilia. The case, which has drawn comparisons to what has been described as the "Epstein case of Tamil Nadu", has expanded after a fresh probe ordered by a court.
The industrialist had been under investigation since last year. The court-directed inquiry subsequently led the police to recover additional digital evidence and to identify multiple victims, broadening the scope of the case beyond what was initially known.
While the matter has been likened to the case involving the American offender Jeffrey Epstein, the scale of the operations in Tamil Nadu was nowhere near that of its American counterpart. What the investigation has pointed to instead is a subterranean network of sexual abusers and their enablers that is believed to have operated for years.
The recovery of further digital material and the identification of more victims mark a significant development in the probe, which remains ongoing.
