Tamil Nadu Bill Proposes Investment Promotion Commission, Faster Clearances

Tamil Nadu introduces bill to create an Investment Promotion Commission under the Chief Secretary and fast-track business clearances.

The Tamil Nadu government has introduced a Bill in the State Assembly to establish a dedicated investment promotion body and streamline the clearance process for businesses.

The proposed legislation seeks to insert a new Section 16-A into the Tamil Nadu Business Facilitation Act, 2018. This amendment would empower the State government to constitute the Tamil Nadu Investment Promotion Commission.

Under the proposed framework, the Chief Secretary of the State would serve as the Chairperson of the new Commission. The body is expected to act as a central coordinating agency to attract and facilitate investments.

A key objective of the Bill is to fast-track regulatory clearances for industrial projects, reducing bureaucratic delays for investors. The move is part of the State's broader efforts to improve the ease of doing business and strengthen its industrial competitiveness.

The introduction of the Bill marks a legislative step toward institutionalising investment promotion through a dedicated statutory body, rather than relying solely on existing departmental mechanisms.
