Tamil Nadu rolls out rooftop solar subsidy scheme for households
Tamil Nadu has launched a rooftop solar subsidy scheme offering up to ₹1 lakh in combined Central and State support, with a target of one lakh households by March.
The Tamil Nadu government on Monday launched the Tamil Nadu Rooftop Solar Subsidy Scheme, aimed at encouraging domestic consumers to install rooftop solar plants. Energy Resources Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar launched the scheme in Chennai.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister said Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had announced a special additional subsidy for rooftop solar plants in the Assembly and had allocated ₹50 crore for the purpose in the current financial year.
Consumers who have applied from August 5 will be eligible for a combined Central and State government subsidy of ₹35,000 for a 1 kilowatt (kW) system, ₹70,000 for 2 kW, and ₹1,00,000 for 3 kW, he said.
The scheme has set a target of installing rooftop solar plants in one lakh households by March next year.
The Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) has launched a portal, https://www.tnebltd.gov.in/usrp/, for applicants to apply and submit their details. The website will carry information on the residential rooftop solar scheme, including subsidies from both the Central and State governments, installation guidelines, application procedures and status, a list of authorised solar vendors, and other relevant details.
