Tamil Nadu Woman Rescued by Indian Embassy in Kuwait After SOS Video
Vanitha, a Tamil Nadu woman who appealed for rescue from Kuwait citing torture and unpaid salary, is now safe at the Indian Embassy.
A Tamil Nadu woman who made an emotional appeal for help from Kuwait is now safe, thanks to the swift action of the Indian Embassy. Vanitha, a resident of Kallakurichi district, had been in Kuwait for the past three months and had claimed she was being tortured by her employers.
In a video that surfaced earlier, Vanitha was seen with her head covered and hands folded, pleading for rescue. She stated that she had not been paid her salary for two months and could no longer endure the treatment she was receiving. She directly appealed to the district Collector and Superintendent of Police to help her return to her motherland.
The video prompted authorities in Tamil Nadu to spring into action. Officials confirmed her identity and traced her family in Kallakurichi. Following this, her mother, Vennila, filed a formal complaint, alleging that an agent had cheated her daughter by arranging a job in Kuwait under false pretences. Vanitha, a mother of two, had travelled to the Gulf nation hoping to work as a domestic help.
Kallakurichi Superintendent of Police Shahnaz confirmed that the district administration had connected the family with the appropriate authorities to facilitate Vanitha's rescue.
In a latest video, Vanitha is seen standing at the Indian Embassy in Kuwait, dressed in a bright green kurta. With her hands folded in gratitude, she expressed her thanks to the embassy. "I am Vanitha who had sought the Indian Embassy's help to rescue me. Now, I am in the Indian Embassy. Thank you, Indian Embassy. I have good dress and good food now," she said, signalling that she is now in a safe and secure environment.
Efforts are now underway to arrange her return to India.
