Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Palla Srinivasa Rao has described September 9 as a 'dark day' for the Telugu people, as the party marked the third anniversary of chief N. Chandrababu Naidu's arrest. Rao asserted that the 2023 detention in the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) case was politically motivated.
He accused the then YSRCP government of acting in an authoritarian manner during the episode. Naidu, who was arrested in connection with the alleged skill development scam, spent over 50 days in Rajamahendravaram Central Prison before securing relief.
The remarks come as the TDP seeks to keep the narrative alive around what it terms a politically driven action against its leader. Rao's statement reiterates the party's long-standing position that the case was used as a tool to target the opposition.
The anniversary has prompted the party to revisit the circumstances of the arrest, with leaders using the occasion to criticise the previous administration's conduct. The APSSDC case pertains to alleged irregularities in skill development programmes during Naidu's earlier tenure as chief minister.
