Teen Who Livestreamed San Diego Mosque Attack Now Faces Murder Charges

A 17-year-old girl from North Carolina has been formally charged with murder by aiding and abetting in connection with a deadly shooting at a San Diego mosque in May, according to the local district attorney. The announcement was made on Monday by Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O'Neill, who stated that the teenager was arrested last week and subsequently indicted by a grand jury just before the start of the new school year.

The charges stem from her alleged role in recording a livestream of the attack and distributing the attackers' white-supremacist writings. The girl's identity has not been released to the public.

The incident occurred on May 18, when two individuals, identified as 17-year-old Cain Clark and 18-year-old Caleb Vazquez, stormed the Islamic Center. Their assault was halted by a security guard who exchanged gunfire with them, initiating a lockdown that helped protect 140 children who were nearby.

The attackers killed the guard, Amin Abdullah, along with two other men, before taking their own lives in a vehicle close to the scene. Investigators found writings left behind by the pair that were filled with vitriol against various groups and cited the 2019 Christchurch mosque shooter, who killed 51 people in New Zealand, as one of their inspirations for the violence.
