Two Arrested for Gang-Rape of Teen on Moving Bus in Greater Noida
A 16-year-old was gang-raped on a moving sleeper bus in Greater Noida. The driver and conductor have been arrested.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl aboard a moving sleeper bus in Greater Noida earlier this month. The accused, identified as bus driver Kuldeep (39) and conductor Sandeep (26), were taken into custody from a parking lot in north Delhi's Timarpur on the same day as the incident.
The survivor, a resident of Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, told police she had left home for her cousin's residence in Noida after an argument with her mother over studies. She alighted at Pari Chowk in Noida around 9 pm, realizing she was still roughly 25 km from her destination. Drenched in rain and alone, she boarded an empty sleeper bus that the conductor said was heading toward Noida Sector 63.
According to her complaint, the conductor began behaving inappropriately shortly after the bus moved, and both men sexually assaulted her while threatening to kill her if she resisted. They later abandoned her near Ring Road in Delhi's Kashmere Gate, about 40 km from where she boarded.
The bus, which was returning from a workshop in Greater Noida's Surajpur, had curtains covering the berths, which the accused exploited. A forensic team recovered strands of the girl's hair from inside the vehicle, which has been seized. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from the route.
Both men had been employed with private firm Vishwanath Travels for over two years, according to a company employee. They face charges of gang rape.
