Telangana sets 20,000 MW renewable energy target for 2030

Telangana is working towards building 20,000 MW of renewable energy generation capacity by 2030, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said, describing the goal as central to making the State a "Green Telangana" and to sustaining long-term development.

Speaking after hoisting the national flag at the Police Parade Grounds in Khammam during 'Praja Palana Dinotsavam', Mr. Vikramarka, who holds the Finance & Planning and Energy portfolios, set out a series of solar initiatives already under way in the district.

Solar plants with a combined capacity of 1,768 kW are being installed across 379 government school buildings. Rooftop solar systems and solar pump sets are also being deployed in 27 model solar villages in Khammam district. A one-MW solar plant has been commissioned at Rajupalem, and a second is under construction.

On the power infrastructure front, 41 additional electricity substations have been sanctioned in the district, supplementing the 126 already in place. An indoor substation in Khammam town has been cleared at a cost of ₹6.5 crore.

The Deputy Chief Minister also pointed to welfare and credit measures, saying ₹394.80 crore in bank-linkage loans had reached 4,008 self-help groups, ₹16.36 crore in 'Stree Nidhi' loans had gone to 555 SHGs, and ₹57.15 crore in interest-free loans had been disbursed to 52,059 SHGs.

He said work on the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Scheme and the Palair Link Canal had been speeded up to bring irrigation water to 1,38,790 acres of new ayacut. He also highlighted flagship programmes including Indiramma Housing, Rythu Bharosa, free bus travel for women and fine rice.

Later in the day, Mr. Vikramarka laid foundation stones for tourism infrastructure works worth ₹2.90 crore at Chirumarri Cheruvu tank and for a new library building costing ₹40 lakh in Mudigonda mandal.
