Telangana Assembly in Turmoil: BRS Protests, Arrests, and Speaker Clash
BRS leaders clash with Speaker, two MLCs arrested, and police book legislators over protests outside Telangana Assembly.
The Telangana Legislative Assembly witnessed intense political drama on Tuesday as opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) members staged protests both inside and outside the House, leading to police action and heated exchanges with the Speaker.
Inside the Assembly, BRS legislators raised slogans demanding an apology over an alleged insult to senior leader Sabitha Indra Reddy. The protest escalated into a sharp verbal confrontation between senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao and Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
Responding to the uproar, Speaker Kumar asserted he would not be intimidated by ruckus in the House. He also stated his respect for women legislators, referring to Sabitha Indra Reddy, Sunitha, and Kova Lakshmi as his sisters, and noted he had already sought an inquiry into the incident concerning Sabithamma. However, he countered that the BRS members had first misbehaved with him and made insulting remarks about his parents.
Outside the Assembly, BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the Congress government, accusing them of resorting to "cheap dramas" to avoid addressing real issues.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad police arrested BRS MLCs Tata Madhu and Naveen Kumar Reddy in connection with alleged derogatory remarks made against Speaker Kumar during Monday's proceedings. Additionally, police have booked BRS legislators on charges of allegedly assaulting police personnel outside the Assembly premises.
