Telangana Assembly's Monsoon Session Opens Amid Protests Over Section 22A Land Notifications

The monsoon session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly commenced on Monday with immediate turbulence, as opposition BJP legislators stormed the Well of the House over the recent inclusion of extensive land parcels in the prohibited properties list under Section 22A of the Registration Act.

Leading the charge, BJP MLA A. Maheshwar Reddy and party colleagues raised slogans and displayed placards, insisting on a probe by a sitting judge into the land notifications. The government, however, indicated its readiness to address the matter through legislative proceedings.

Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu assured the House that the Treasury Benches had no objection to a short discussion on the issue. He stated that the matter would be raised in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting scheduled later in the day and could be taken up as the first item of business. The Minister accused the BJP of attempting to politicise the matter despite the government's assurance.

Speaker G. Prasad Kumar also intervened, attempting to pacify the protesting members by reiterating that the BAC would consider the issue and allow a debate. Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy expressed disappointment over the BJP's continued protest, alleging that the party was colluding with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to stall a CBI probe into irregularities concerning the Kaleshwaram project. He questioned why the BJP was not pressing for the central agency's investigation.

As the sloganeering intensified, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who was present in the chamber, left the House. The Speaker subsequently adjourned the proceedings for 14 minutes to restore order.
