Telangana Assembly suspends over 20 BRS MLAs for rest of monsoon session (2026-09-09)

The Telangana Legislative Assembly on Wednesday suspended more than 20 legislators from the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for the remainder of the monsoon session. The action came after BRS members crowded the Speaker's podium, raising slogans of "we want justice" and disrupting proceedings.
The suspension motion was moved by a minister amid the din. Among those suspended are prominent BRS leaders including T. Harish Rao, K.T. Rama Rao, G. Jagdishwar Reddy, P. Kaushik Reddy, and Anil Kumar Jadhav. Others include Kova Lakshmi, P. Sabita Indra Reddy, Sunita Lakshma Reddy, Ch. Prabhkar, K. Prabhakar Reddy, K.P. Vivekananda, T. Srinivas Yadav, and K. Manik Rao.
The protests were linked to remarks made about former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao during the session. The BRS members had been demanding action over the issue, leading to the standoff with the treasury benches.
Separately, Justice T. Madhavi Devi of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday reserved orders on an interim application seeking modification of an earlier directive. That directive had asked the police chief to take action against officers who allegedly prevented BRS legislators from entering the Assembly premises the previous day. The court's decision on the matter is now awaited.
