Telangana raises AYUSH stipends, parity with allopathic peers
Telangana hikes AYUSH house surgeon and PG stipends, aligning them with allopathic counterparts after strike.
The Telangana government has approved a significant increase in monthly stipends for AYUSH house surgeons and postgraduate (PG) students, bringing their remuneration in line with that of their allopathic counterparts. The decision comes nine days after a 28-day strike by AYUSH students and doctors was called off.
Health Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu issued the government order based on a proposal from the Director of the Department of AYUSH, Telangana. The revised structure raises the stipend for AYUSH house surgeons from ₹13,754 to ₹29,792 per month.
This enhancement will benefit 405 house surgeons, including 126 from Ayurveda, 125 from Homoeopathy, 94 from Unani, and 60 from Naturopathy streams.
Postgraduate students also received substantial increases. First-year PG stipends rise from ₹30,947 to ₹67,032, while second-year students see an increase from ₹32,665 to ₹70,757. Third-year PG stipends have been raised from ₹34,385 to ₹74,482.
The revised stipends will cover 393 PG students, with 131 students in each of the three years of study.
