Telangana BJP Demands Crop Loan Waiver, ₹50,000 per Acre Aid for Farmers

Telangana BJP has urged the State government to convene an immediate meeting of the State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) to secure a complete waiver of crop loans taken by farmers during the current agricultural season. The party also wants bank officials directed not to pursue farmers for repayment.

Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar said the government should pay compensation of ₹50,000 per cultivated acre to farmers who suffered crop losses during the monsoon. He also called for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) to be implemented before the Rabi season begins, with the government bearing the full premium cost.

Shankar warned that the government has been given time until October 21 to respond. If it fails to act, the BJP will organise a large "Farmers' March" from Adilabad to Hyderabad starting October 22.

Separately, BJP Kisan Morcha State president Basvapuram Lakshminarsaiah said party chief N. Ramchander Rao would lead a delegation to Nalgonda district on Wednesday to assess crop damage and meet affected farmers.

According to the party, many farmers have been unable to irrigate their fields because of power outages, despite heavy investment in borewells, amid deficient rainfall conditions linked to El Nino.
