Telangana BJP seeks HC judge-led probe into Section 22A land listing

The Telangana BJP has demanded a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into alleged irregularities in the inclusion of private and agricultural lands under Section 22A of the Registration Act. The demand was raised at a protest organised by the party at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Led by BJP Legislature Party leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy, the protest saw participation from senior leaders including Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy. Addressing the gathering, state BJP president N. Ramchander Rao alleged that the revenue administration had collapsed and claimed that nearly 50 lakh people were facing difficulties due to their properties being placed on the 22A prohibited list.

Rao accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his ministers of acknowledging errors in the system but failing to take corrective action. He demanded the immediate removal of all eligible private and agricultural lands from the list.

Maheshwar Reddy alleged that over one crore acres had been brought under the prohibited list and that affected property owners were being subjected to extortion. He cited problems in several districts and levelled allegations against Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, demanding his resignation over an alleged conflict of interest.

The BJP also called for a forensic audit of the Revenue Department's portal logins and a White Paper identifying officials responsible for adding or removing properties from the 22A list. Additionally, the party sought a comprehensive CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities in the current land administration system and alleged scams during the previous BRS government.

At the conclusion of the protest, Maheshwar Reddy accepted lemon juice from a farmer who, according to the BJP, was among those affected by the inclusion of land in the 22A list.
