Telangana BJP urges Governor to intervene on ₹15,000 crore fee arrears
Telangana BJP seeks Governor's intervention to clear ₹15,000 crore fee reimbursement arrears affecting lakhs of students.
The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has approached Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, seeking his intervention to resolve the mounting fee reimbursement crisis in the state. A delegation led by State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao met the Governor at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum urging the Congress-led government to clear pending dues amounting to ₹15,000 crore.
The party has also called for a dedicated discussion on the matter in the Legislative Assembly during the ongoing session. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mr. Rao alleged that around 40 lakh students have been affected by the non-payment of fees, with arrears accumulated under both the previous BRS regime and the current Congress government.
Mr. Rao noted that while the government recently released limited funds for students admitted in the current academic year, those disbursals came only after repeated High Court interventions and sustained protests by the BJP. The longstanding arrears, he said, remain unpaid, causing continued hardship for students and educational institutions alike.
The BJP leader also criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who holds the Education portfolio, accusing him of allowing the sector to slip into crisis. He demanded the immediate withdrawal of what he termed "false and illegal" cases registered against BJP workers during recent protests.
In a related development, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar expressed disappointment over the conduct of political parties in the Assembly. He claimed that people were "disgusted" with the proceedings and the language used by legislators. Mr. Sanjay specifically accused BRS leaders of using objectionable language against the Speaker and demanded action against BRS MLC Tata Madhu.
He argued that valuable legislative time was being wasted on political sparring instead of addressing pressing public issues such as Section 22A land restrictions, fee reimbursement dues, drinking water shortages, unemployment, and non-payment of Dearness Allowance and retirement benefits.
