Telangana CM accuses BJP of plotting to delete Congress voters during electoral roll revision
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy alleges BJP is using electoral roll revision to delete Congress voters, citing similar tactics in other states.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has accused the BJP-led central government of attempting to manipulate electoral rolls in Opposition-ruled states. Speaking at a party workers' meeting in Kodangal on Saturday, Reddy claimed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists is being used as a cover to remove names of Congress supporters.
Reddy asserted that the BJP had employed similar tactics to win recent elections in Maharashtra, Bihar, and West Bengal, and is now trying to replicate the strategy in Telangana ahead of the next Assembly polls. He specifically alleged that the revision process is targeting scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, and minority communities.
The Chief Minister warned that his party would not remain passive and is prepared to counter any attempts to delete names of its supporters. He also accused the BJP of using central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI to weaken political rivals in previous elections.
In addition to the BJP, Reddy criticised the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the principal Opposition in the state, for allegedly supporting the saffron party's efforts in the voter list exercise.
The final SIR list for Telangana is scheduled for release on October 19. However, the state government is reported to have recently requested the Election Commission to extend the deadline by three to four weeks.
