Telangana HC disqualifies Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender under anti-defection law
The Telangana High Court disqualified Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender under the anti-defection law, drawing a sharp reaction from the BRS.
The Telangana High Court on Friday disqualified Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender from the Legislative Assembly under the anti-defection law, a development that drew an immediate response from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao welcomed the verdict and said legislators who had switched to the Congress would face a similar outcome. In a post on social media, he wrote, "Satyameva Jayate!! BRS MLA Danam Nagendar who defected to Congress got disqualified by the Hon'ble High Court today. The rest of the defectors will also meet the same fate soon."
BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy, who filed the case against Mr Nagender, said the judgment showed that the aspirations of the people cannot be undermined by MLAs elected on a party symbol. He said the Congress government should feel ashamed, and described the verdict as the outcome of the BRS's sustained fight against defections to the Congress.
Mr Kaushik Reddy added that the party's efforts would continue until the other BRS MLAs who had defected to the Congress were also disqualified from the House.
