Telangana HC Reserves Verdict on Plea to Modify Police Action Order
Telangana High Court reserves order on modifying directive for action against police officers who stopped BRS MLAs from entering the Assembly.
The Telangana High Court on Tuesday reserved its order on an interim application seeking modification of a directive that called for action against police officers who prevented Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislators from entering the Assembly the previous day.
Justice T. Madhavi Devi, who heard the matter, indicated that the order would be pronounced within a day or two.
During the hearing, Advocate General A. Sudershan Reddy, representing the state government, argued that the police were not at fault and had acted on the instructions of the Chief Marshal of the Assembly. He cited Rule 316 of the Assembly Business, which permits the Chief Marshal to seek police assistance to ensure the smooth conduct of the House when necessary.
The Advocate General also contended that photographs submitted by the BRS in its writ petition presented only one side of the incident.
Senior counsel Gandra Mohan Rao, appearing for the petitioners, opposed the modification plea. He argued that the original order only called for action against 'erring police officers' and that if no officer was found to be at fault, no action would follow naturally.
