Telangana Braces for Heavy Rain: Red Alert in Eight Districts on September 23
IMD has issued red alerts for eight Telangana districts on September 23 and 24, with orange alerts for several others, as a depression over the Bay of Bengal drives heavy rainfall.
A well-marked depression over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to large parts of Telangana over the next few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for multiple districts on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, and Thursday, September 24, 2026.
For Wednesday, a red alert warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places covers Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanumakonda districts. An orange alert, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, is in force for Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Jangaon and Siddipet districts.
On Thursday, the red alert shifts to isolated places in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanumakonda districts. An orange alert has been issued for Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Jangaon and Siddipet districts.
G.N.R.S Srinivas, Senior Meteorologist at the IMD Centre in Hyderabad, said some districts in northern and northeastern Telangana could receive very heavy rainfall of 12 to 19 cm on Tuesday, with the intensity expected to remain high over the following two days. The weather system is likely to influence conditions across the state.
Hyderabad city and its surrounding areas are expected to see a generally cloudy sky over the next 48 hours. Moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds are very likely in parts of the city, with maximum and minimum temperatures hovering around 30°C and 22°C respectively.
