Telangana to cancel Indiramma House allotments where construction has not begun

Telangana will cancel the allotment of Indiramma Houses where construction has not commenced and reassign those units to eligible beneficiaries, Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said on Monday (September 21).

The scheme offers a subsidy of ₹5 lakh per house, disbursed in instalments. Beneficiaries are expected to fund the initial stage of construction themselves, with the first instalment released only after the basement is completed. Some allottees have been unable to begin work because they could not arrange the upfront amount.

The matter came up during the recent monsoon session of the State Assembly. The Minister said Self Help Groups advance ₹1 lakh to beneficiaries who are members, addressing the initial funding gap.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for an Indiramma Housing tower near Malkam Cheruvu in Raidurg, within the Serilingampally Assembly constituency, Reddy said the government wants to complete the housing towers in Hyderabad's Core Urban Region (CURE) at a fast pace, with the aim that beneficiaries celebrate Bonalu next year in their new homes.

The government plans to build one lakh such houses in CURE. In the first phase, 480 flats were sanctioned per Assembly constituency, and draws have so far been held to select beneficiaries for 7,340 flats across 16 constituencies. Allotments in more constituencies are planned.

Reddy urged applicants who were not selected in the draw of lots not to lose heart, saying houses would be built in subsequent phases as well. "Houses would be provided to eligible persons from poor backgrounds in CURE limits in the coming two-and-a-half years," he said.

Along with an undivided share of 17 to 20 square yards per beneficiary, steps are being taken to give each allottee full ownership of their flat. A decision has also been taken to waive sale deed and registration charges.
