Telangana to build ₹86.5-crore Haj House near Shamshabad airport

The Telangana government has decided to build a new Haj House near the international airport at Shamshabad at an estimated cost of ₹86.5 crore. Two acres have been set aside at Mamidipalli in Shamshabad mandal for the complex, and the government is in the process of engaging reputed architects to design it.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka told the Legislative Assembly on Thursday that senior officials, along with the chief executive officer of the Wakf Board, had visited Bengaluru to study the Haj House model there. The proposed facility, he said, is intended to serve as a model for others.

The Deputy Chief Minister was responding to a question from AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi during Question Hour. He said the government would soon convene a meeting of stakeholders to address the issues raised by the AIMIM leader and take a final decision on the new Haj House.

Mr. Owaisi sought clarity on the government's plans for the existing Haj House in the central part of Hyderabad and on the status of the adjoining building owned by the Wakf Board. He also said adequate steps had not been taken to maintain the Haj House and urged the government to put an effective mechanism in place.

Replying to the query on the old Haj House building, Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin said it would be converted into a skill development centre, where youth from the community would be trained in various fields.
