Telangana Sports Body to Review Coaching Fee Structure After Feedback
SATG will review its revised coaching fees after athlete feedback. New rules extend free coaching to over 42% of trainees based on education and income.
The Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) has decided to set up a committee to review its recently revised sports coaching fee structure. The move follows feedback from athletes and parents on the new charges.
The decision was made during a review meeting at LB Stadium, chaired by SATG Chairman K. Shiva Sena Reddy and Vice-Chairperson and Managing Director A. Sonibala Devi.
Addressing the controversy over the fee revision, SATG clarified that the new Government Order (GO) would allow more than 42% of trainees to receive free coaching. Unlike the previous structure, the revised GO determines eligibility for free coaching based on a student's educational and economic background.
Mr. Shiva Sena Reddy explained that students from government and aided schools will receive free coaching. Students in private schools with an annual tuition fee of up to ₹35,000 are also eligible. Sportspersons who have represented Telangana in recognised competitions will continue to have free access to practice facilities in their disciplines during the relevant calendar year.
Data from SATG facilities highlights the impact of the revised GO. At the KVBR Indoor Stadium, 57% of trainees across 10 disciplines would receive free coaching. The figure is 65% at Gymkhana Grounds and 88% at the Hussain Sagar Water Sports Training Centre. All trainees enrolled in kayaking and canoeing would be eligible for free coaching.
At the Osmania University Cycling Velodrome, 57% of trainees would receive free coaching. The corresponding figures are around 42% at LB Stadium and 35% at GMC Balayogi Stadium.
The proposed committee will examine the revised fee structure in detail and recommend rationalisation wherever necessary.
