Texas Set to Execute Ker'Sean Ramey for 2005 Triple Killing
Ker'Sean Ramey, 41, is scheduled for execution in Texas for a 2005 triple homicide in Edna, a week after co-defendant LeJames Norman was executed.
Texas is preparing to execute Ker'Sean Ramey, 41, on Wednesday for his role in a 2005 triple homicide at a rural home in Edna, a small city about 100 miles southwest of Houston.
Ramey is set to die by lethal injection at the state penitentiary in Huntsville. His execution would be the sixth in Texas this year, with three more scheduled.
A jury convicted Ramey of capital murder and sentenced him to death for the shootings of Samuel Roberts, 24, Tiffani Peacock, 18, and Celso Lopez, 38, who shared the Edna home.
According to court records, Ramey and LeJames Norman believed cocaine was inside the house and planned to steal it. They found none and killed the three victims, who lived across the street from Norman.
Norman was executed on Sept. 16, also in Huntsville. He had no last words, and no relatives or friends of the victims witnessed the execution.
About a year after testifying at Ramey's trial, Norman pleaded guilty to capital murder and was sentenced to death by a jury. He testified that both he and Ramey shot the victims. Lopez was shot four times, including three in the back of his head; Peacock was shot twice in the head; and Roberts was shot five times in the chest, neck and head.
During Ramey's trial, his attorneys blamed the shootings on Norman.
Ramey's legal team has filed a final appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, arguing that no physical evidence links him to the killings and that jurors never heard about the physical abuse he suffered as a child and his upbringing in poverty.
Prosecutors have told lower courts that Ramey did not present any issues that would merit reconsidering the conviction.
