Teyana Taylor's Directorial Debut 'Get Lite' Sets Cast, Release Date

Teyana Taylor's feature directorial debut 'Get Lite' will star Storm Reid and Ceyair Wright, with production starting this month in New York.

Teyana Taylor, the multi-hyphenate artist known for her music and acting, is set to make her feature directorial debut with 'Get Lite,' a dance-centric drama that has now locked its principal cast. The film will star Storm Reid and Ceyair Wright in lead roles, with Leslie Odom Jr. and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor also attached to the project.

The story follows a gifted but sheltered dance student who discovers inspiration, love, and a sense of belonging in the unexpected setting of New York City's subway system. Wright, known for 'Space Jam: A New Legacy,' plays the student caught between two worlds, while Reid, recognized for her work in 'The Last of Us' and 'Euphoria,' portrays the girl who introduces him to new possibilities. The film will prominently feature Litefeet, a high-energy dance style that originated in Harlem, Taylor's hometown.

Production is scheduled to begin this month in New York City, with a wide theatrical release planned for August 20, 2027. Taylor, who recently earned acclaim for her performance in 'One Battle After Another,' is directing from a screenplay by Maurice Williams, based on Eric Gross's spec script that landed on the 2020 Black List.

The supporting cast includes indie hip-hop artist Khayr Bullock, Twitch streamer Tylil James, and actor Woody McClain, known for 'Power Book II: Ghost' and 'The Harder They Fall.' Additionally, Jodie Turner-Smith and Asante Blackk are in negotiations for key roles.
