TGSRTC to convert 13 Telangana bus stations into integrated transit hubs

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has announced that 13 bus stations across the State will be redeveloped as Integrated Transit Bus Stations, combining transport with commercial and entertainment facilities.

The model envisages stations that serve not only as bus terminals but also as hubs bringing together businesses, entertainment and other modes of transport. Passengers will be able to access railway services immediately after stepping off a bus, while the complexes will also house shopping areas, business centres, gaming zones, food courts and entertainment spaces. The amenities are expected to resemble those found at airports.

The stations covered by the plan are Nagarkurnool, Regonda, Huzurnagar, Kodad, Kodangal, Kosgi, Maddur, Kesamudram, Husnabad, Mulugu, Madhira, Nalgonda and Kothagudem.

The corporation said the project has been conceived with the cooperation of the Telangana government and the vision of TGSRTC Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy, and has received official approval from the government and the Transport Department. Construction on the model bus stations is set to begin soon.

The move is expected to make travel easier for passengers while giving travel hubs across the State a modern, contemporary look. It also continues a long-running effort to revitalise the transport undertaking and generate revenue beyond ticketing. In 2018, the then government examined the feasibility of setting up multiplexes or theatres and shopping malls on TGSRTC property. Earlier, in 2016, the corporation had considered building mini-theatres at several bus depots on a build-operate-transfer basis.
