Floods Disrupt Bangkok and Sa Keao as Thailand's Rain Persists

Flooding continued to disrupt parts of Thailand on Sunday, with sections of Bangkok and the border province of Sa Keao still under water after days of heavy rain.

Footage showed a stretch of Phahonyothin Road, a highway in the capital, completely waterlogged, with only a handful of vehicles moving through. The water rose roughly halfway up the tyres of the cars still using the route.

In Sa Keao, which borders Cambodia, the flooding appeared more extensive. Trucks carried residents through submerged streets, while others waded slowly through the water, at times holding hands for support.

The downpour battered several areas of Bangkok on Saturday, snarling traffic and prompting thousands of people to leave their homes. Authorities declared the city a disaster area.

The Meteorological Department has warned that the rain, which began on Thursday afternoon, would persist across most of the country through Sunday.

While many central parts of Bangkok escaped further rain on Sunday, flooding in the city continued.
