Complaint Against Thalassery Doctor Over Foetal Death After C-Section Delay
Relatives of a nine-month-pregnant woman in Thalassery allege a delayed Caesarean section caused her foetus's death; the doctor and hospital deny the charge.
A complaint has been filed against a gynaecologist at Thalassery General Hospital following the death of a foetus, with the family of the patient alleging that a delay in carrying out a Caesarean section was responsible.
The woman, who was nine months pregnant, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning, September 15, for delivery. She was moved to the labour room at around 4 a.m. on Thursday, September 17.
According to her relatives, the doctor told them at about 8 a.m. that an immediate surgery was necessary. They allege that the procedure was actually performed an hour later, and that they were then informed the foetus had died in the womb. The family contends that the delay in conducting the Caesarean section caused the death.
The gynaecologist has rejected the allegation, stating that the death resulted from a rare complication in which the placenta separates inside the womb. She said an emergency surgery was carried out and that every possible attempt was made to save the foetus.
The hospital superintendent also said the surgery was performed without delay and that the medical team did everything it could to save the foetus given the emergency conditions.
