Five Arrested in Thane Kidnapping of Businessman Held for Rs 50 Lakh Ransom
Five people have been arrested in the kidnapping of Kalyan businessman Jayram Nehalani, who was abducted from Ulhasnagar and freed after his family paid a Rs 50 lakh ransom.
Five people have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a businessman in Maharashtra's Thane district, an abduction carried out for a ransom of Rs 50 lakh.
Jayram Nehalani, a Kalyan-based businessman, was abducted a few days ago from the Gol Maidan area of Ulhasnagar. His captors demanded Rs 50 lakh from his family for his release.
Relatives of Nehalani travelled to Kalyan and handed over the money to a man. After taking the cash, the man assured them that the businessman would return home shortly. Before leaving, he addressed the person who had handed over the money as "Uncle" and thanked him.
To trace the accused, the police set up 10 teams and examined CCTV footage, which led them to the Khadavli area of Thane. With assistance from local residents, the police rescued Nehalani safely and took one of the accused into custody at the spot.
Investigators found that Sachin Shirsat, an acquaintance of Nehalani and a well-known estate agent from Kalyan, had masterminded the plot and fled after the incident. The five people arrested so far are Anil Jagtap, Vishal Chandramore, Ramesh Jadhav, Sachin Shirsat and Rahul Soni.
Two other suspects, Satish Donde and Mayur Darane, are still absconding. The police said further investigations are underway.
