Two MDMA seizures in two days in Thiruvananthapuram; four held
Two separate drug busts in Thiruvananthapuram within two days led to four arrests and the seizure of around 205 g of MDMA.
The anti-drug drive in the State capital has produced two seizures in as many days, with four people taken into custody and roughly 205 g of MDMA recovered in all.
Early on Monday, the Thiruvananthapuram City District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) apprehended two men near the Kovalam bypass junction. They were identified as Ananthakrishnan, a resident of Sreekaryam, and Thomas, who is from Thumba. The two were intercepted while they were allegedly trying to move the contraband in a car.
According to the police, Ananthakrishnan has several criminal cases registered against him within the Sreekaryam police station limits. The pair are suspected of having been carrying the drug for sale in Kazhakuttam and other areas around Technopark.
When the suspects realised they were being followed, they allegedly tried to escape and rammed their vehicle into the police car. The team gave chase, stopped the car and took both men into custody. A packet of MDMA was found hidden inside the fuel tank lid, and another was allegedly concealed in the shoe of one of the accused. The seizure weighed close to 100 g.
The operation came a day after an excise squad arrested two people at East Fort on Sunday with 105 g of MDMA in their alleged possession. They were identified as Akash of Kallambalam and Aravind of Chullimanoor.
Official sources said the contraband in that case had allegedly been brought to Thiruvananthapuram from Bengaluru and was being taken to Kollam. The two had reached the city by bus and were travelling towards Chullimanoor on a two-wheeler when they were held. They were allegedly planning to sell the narcotic substance among school and college students.
