Thiruvananthapuram Police Seize 87.59 kg Ganja, Arrest Three in Operation Toofan
Thiruvananthapuram Rural Police seized 87.59 kg of ganja and arrested three people, including a habitual offender with 13 prior cases, in an Operation Toofan raid.
The Thiruvananthapuram Rural Police have seized 87.59 kg of ganja and arrested three people in a raid conducted under the anti-narcotics drive Operation Toofan, officials said on Thursday.
Additional Superintendent of Police J.K. Dinil told a press conference that the contraband was recovered from a car bearing a Tamil Nadu registration during an operation in the Aryancode police station limits. The consignment comprised 40 packets, each weighing about 2.2 kg.
Two men, identified as Akhil and Sudheesh, were taken into custody first. Investigators said detailed questioning led them to conclude that the shipment had been brought to the district for Joby Jose, described as a notorious drug peddler based in Thiruvananthapuram. The team subsequently arrested Jose, who has been an accused in 13 cases, including several registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to the police, the ganja is believed to have been transported from Andhra Pradesh to Kerala. Investigators suspect the large consignment was meant for distribution across Thiruvananthapuram and other districts, and that it was to be supplied in smaller quantities to various locations, including schools and coastal and other sensitive areas.
The case is being investigated by the Thiruvananthapuram Rural Police.
