Feeder fault cuts power to Thrissur Medical College, surgeries suspended
A feeder fault at the substation supplying Thrissur Government Medical College has disrupted power since Thursday night, forcing authorities to suspend scheduled surgeries and other procedures.
Power supply to the Thrissur Government Medical College has remained disrupted since around 10 p.m. on Thursday, prompting the authorities to suspend scheduled surgeries and several other medical procedures.
The outage stems from a fault in the feeder at the substation that supplies electricity to the medical college. Repair work is under way to rectify the fault and restore normal supply.
With the disruption stretching on, the hospital administration directed that scheduled surgeries and other procedures be put on hold. The medical college ordinarily performs about 20 to 24 surgeries a day, all of which have been deferred amid the power crisis.
Although the institution has generator backup, officials said it is adequate only to keep wards and other essential areas running. The system cannot fully meet the requirements of the operating theatres and other critical facilities.
Doctors and hospital staff described the situation as an unusual and serious disruption at the medical college. The power supply had not been restored even by Friday night.
