Thrissur Emerges as Keralam's Top-Ranked City in Oxford Economics Global Cities Index

Thrissur has emerged as the highest-ranked city in Keralam in the Oxford Economics Global Cities Index, a global assessment covering 1,000 cities across 163 countries.

The index evaluates urban performance across five broad parameters: economics, human capital, quality of life, environment and governance. Seven cities from Keralam — Thrissur, Kochi, Kozhikode, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Kannur — have secured a place in the ranking.

Among Indian cities, Thrissur stands seventh, behind Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune. A total of 90 Indian cities appear in the global index, with Delhi, at 268th worldwide, holding the highest position among them.

The latest edition marks a notable shift within Keralam. In 2024, Kochi was the State's top-ranked city, with Thrissur in second place. This time, Thrissur has moved ahead, supported by its performance in areas such as quality of life, environmental sustainability and economic conditions.

The index is designed to compare cities worldwide, offering a broad view of their economic and social performance as well as their liveability.

At the global level, New York in the United States retained the top spot for the second consecutive year, followed by London in the United Kingdom and Paris in France in second and third positions respectively.
