Tirumala's five-day Vedic ritual for bountiful rains concludes
The five-day Vedic ritual for timely rains and prosperity concluded at Tirumala with Maha Poornahuti, led by TTD officials and Vedic scholars.
A five-day Vedic ritual aimed at invoking divine blessings for timely and adequate rainfall across India, as well as the welfare and prosperity of humanity, concluded on Thursday at the Dharmagiri Veda Vignana Peetham in Tirumala. The concluding ceremony featured the performance of 'Maha Poornahuti', the final offering into the sacred fire.
The ritual, conducted by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), included 'Kareri Isti', 'Varuna Japam', and 'Parjanya Shanti homam' — all intended to seek favourable weather for a bountiful agricultural season.
TTD Executive Officer M. Ravichandra and Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary participated in the closing ceremony. Kuppa Siva Subrahmanya Avadhani, Principal of Sri Venkateswara Veda Vignana Peetham, led the chanting of prescribed mantras.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Avadhani said the rituals followed a tradition maintained for several decades, with prayers for balanced rainfall — neither excessive nor deficient — to spare people from hardship. A total of 32 ritwiks (Vedic priests) took part in the ritual.
TTD board members Panabaka Lakshmi, G. Bhanu Prakash Reddy, and Shanta Ram, along with faculty and students of the peetham, were present at the concluding ceremony.
