Three held in Tirupattur for abducting school student, ransom demand traced to Bengaluru
Three Alangayam men were arrested for abducting a 17-year-old school student and demanding ₹50 lakh from his farmer father; the boy was rescued in Bengaluru.
Three men have been arrested in connection with the abduction of a school student from Alangayam town in Tirupattur district, police said on Saturday. The accused have been identified as R. Harish, 22, V. Bhuvanesh, 24, and G. Desingh, 21, all residents of Alangayam.
The case dates back to September 17, when S. Sanjeev Kumar, 17, a student of a Government Boys Higher Secondary School, failed to return home. His father, T. Sivakumar, a farmer, subsequently received a telephone call in which the caller demanded ₹50 lakh for the boy's release.
Sivakumar approached the Alangayam police, who registered a complaint and formed special teams to trace the student. Investigators examined CCTV camera footage and mobile phone signals, which led them to a hideout in Bengaluru where the boy was being held.
Working with the local police there, the special team apprehended the suspects and secured the student safely. The three arrested men have been lodged in the sub-jail in Tirupattur town. Further investigation into the abduction is under way.
