Tirupattur woman, lover held for killing her two sons in farm well
A 26-year-old woman and her lover were arrested for allegedly drowning her two young sons in a farm well in Tirupattur district.
Police in Tirupattur district have arrested a 26-year-old woman and her alleged lover on charges of murdering her two children. The accused, identified as S. Sivagami of Velichanur village in Jawadhu Hills, Tiruvannamalai, and S. Raja, 34, a cab driver, were taken into custody by the Alangayam police.
The investigation revealed that Sivagami was married to B. Sait, 31, who is currently lodged in a prison in Andhra Pradesh in connection with an illegal red sanders felling case. It was during this period that she reportedly developed a relationship with Raja.
According to police, on August 27, Sivagami took her sons — S. Prem Kumar, 5, and S. Pratap, 2 — to Alangayam town by bus. She then walked with them to a nearby farm well. As the boys were looking into the well, she allegedly pushed them in and left the spot. The children drowned before the landowner, G. Prakasam, arrived at the well. He alerted the authorities, and Alangayam police recovered the bodies and registered a case.
Police said the woman confessed to the crime during interrogation. The motive, they said, was the fear that the children would be an obstacle to her relationship with Raja. Sivagami has been lodged at the sub-jail in Tirupattur town. Further investigation is underway.
