TMC Alleges BJP Used YouTubers to Stoke Religious Divide Before Bengal Polls
TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh accused the BJP of manufacturing a narrative and deepening religious divisions ahead of the West Bengal elections by paying YouTubers, citing a ₹2.5 lakh payment to a city-based content creator.
Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of deliberately manufacturing a narrative and deepening religious divisions in West Bengal ahead of the state's elections by using YouTubers as paid amplifiers.
Speaking as a party spokesperson, Ghosh pointed to a specific episode involving a Kolkata-based YouTuber who publicly protested after being served beef at a restaurant in the city. According to Ghosh, the content creator was paid ₹2.5 lakh by the BJP, suggesting the controversy was not spontaneous but part of a coordinated effort to polarise voters.
The Trinamool leader said the payment was part of a broader pattern of election expenditure by the BJP that has now come to light. He argued that such spending was aimed at creating communal friction rather than addressing substantive issues.
The allegations add to the charged political atmosphere in West Bengal, where parties are competing for narrative space ahead of the polls. The BJP has not yet responded to the specific claims made by Ghosh.
