TNRDC scraps tender for Chennai Peripheral Ring Road's Section V
Tamil Nadu Road Development Company has annulled the tender for the 27-km Singaperumal Koil–Poonjeri section of the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road, citing administrative reasons.
The Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC) has cancelled the tender for the construction of Section V of the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR), which was to run between Singaperumal Koil and Poonjeri. The annulment was attributed to administrative reasons.
The cancelled contract covered the design and construction of the roughly 27-km stretch. This section forms part of the 133.64-km CPRR, an access-controlled six-lane dual carriageway that will also carry two-lane service lanes on either side.
Section V was to be taken up with external funding assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), amounting to 49,847 million Japanese Yen. The overall CPRR project is being built at a cost of ₹17,958.39 crore.
The corridor is intended to improve connectivity for vehicles travelling from the southern parts of Tamil Nadu to the Ennore and Kattupalli ports. It will also feature an Intelligent Transport System (ITS).
Work on the other sections is at different stages. Section I is being implemented by TNRDC with JICA assistance of 40,074 million Japanese Yen. Sections II and III are being executed with external funding support of 478 million USD from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the OPEC Fund for International Development.
Section IV has already been completed, and a detailed project report is being prepared for its upgradation into an access-controlled road.
