Landslide in Assam Halts Train Services to Mizoram
A landslide in Assam's Hailakandi district has suspended train services to Mizoram's Bairabi. Repairs are ongoing.
Train services to Mizoram have been temporarily suspended after heavy rainfall caused a landslide along the railway track in Assam's Hailakandi district. The disruption occurred on Thursday evening when soil erosion affected nearly 50 metres of track between Jamira and Bairabi, near the Assam-Mizoram border.
The Northeast Frontier Railway has halted train movement through the affected section as a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety. Repair crews and necessary equipment have been dispatched to the site, and work is progressing on a war footing to restore the track as soon as possible.
Several trains have been affected. The Silchar-Bairabi passenger train, which ran on Thursday, terminated at Jamira and will begin its return journey from there. The Guwahati-Sairang train stopped at Hailakandi, with its onward service cancelled. Trains scheduled for today, including Bairabi-Silchar, Sairang-Kolkata, and Silchar-Sairang, have also been cancelled.
For stranded passengers, the railway has arranged drinking water and light refreshments at Jamira, Bairabi, and Sairang stations. Special assistance centres have been opened at Guwahati, Lumding, Naharlagun, Badarpur, and Sairang to provide information and ticket-related help. Alternative road transport is being arranged for passengers heading to Bairabi.
