Trespasser Reported at Kamala Harris' Malibu Residence
A trespasser was reported at Kamala Harris' Malibu home Friday night. Deputies advised the person to leave, and they did so voluntarily.
Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were called to the Malibu residence of former Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday night after a trespasser was reported on the property.
The sheriff's department said it received a "suspicious person" call from Harris' private security detail at around 10:30 p.m. When deputies arrived, they made contact with the individual and told them to leave. The person complied without incident.
Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were not at home at the time, according to a spokesperson for the former vice president, Eduardo Negrón. He said the individual had illegally entered the property and was stopped by security before reaching the house.
"They are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly," Negrón said.
The sheriff's department said it took a trespassing report and that deputies from the local station would step up patrols in the area as a precaution.
Former vice presidents are normally entitled to federal protection for six months after leaving office, while former presidents receive it for life. Then-President Joe Biden extended Harris' protection beyond the standard six months, but President Donald Trump revoked that extension last August. It would otherwise have expired this summer.
