923 drunk-driving cases booked across Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri
Traffic police in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri booked 923 motorists for drunk driving during special weekend drives, while courts disposed of 1,176 related cases across the three limits.
Traffic police across the tri-commissionerate limits of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri booked a total of 923 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during special enforcement drives over the weekend.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police registered 397 cases during a two-day drive held on September 11 and 12. In Cyberabad, 292 motorists were apprehended during a weekend special drive, while the Malkajgiri Commissionerate Traffic Police caught 234 motorists during a drive that ran from September 6 to 12.
Alongside the enforcement, courts disposed of a large number of pending drunk-driving cases in the two other commissionerates. In Cyberabad, 681 cases were disposed of between September 7 and 12. Eighteen offenders were sentenced to a jail term along with a fine, seven were ordered to pay a fine and perform social service, and 656 were fined.
In Malkajgiri, 495 cases were disposed of between September 6 and 12. Seven respondents were directed to pay a fine and take up social service, while 488 were fined. No respondent in the commissionerate received both a fine and a jail term.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police said it would maintain zero tolerance towards drunk-driving violations and that such special drives would continue.
