TMC Leaders Appear Before Kolkata Police in Illegal Billboard Removal Case

TMC's Derek O'Brien and Abhishek Banerjee's assistant appeared before Kolkata Police over the illegal billboard removal clash at Camac Street.

Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien appeared at the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station on Tuesday in connection with the dispute over the removal of an illegal billboard from party colleague Abhishek Banerjee's office on Camac Street. His appearance came a day after he skipped a police summons.

Abhishek Banerjee's personal assistant, Sumit Roy, also appeared before the investigating team on Tuesday over his alleged role in the matter.

The case stems from a chaotic incident last Thursday when Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) officials, accompanied by police, arrived at the Camac Street office to remove the unauthorised billboard. The operation was met with resistance from Trinamool workers, leading to a clash at the site.

Following the incident, first information reports were registered naming Banerjee, O'Brien, and former MLA Humayun Kabir. Banerjee faces multiple charges, including an allegation of attempting to outrage the modesty of a female officer during the confrontation.

Banerjee, who was questioned for five hours on Monday, has dismissed the case against him as politically motivated. The investigation is ongoing.
