Tripura tribal council village polls: Schedule to be out on August 31
Tripura SEC will announce the schedule for long-pending TTAADC village committee elections on August 31, covering 587 committees.
The State Election Commission (SEC) of Tripura has confirmed that it will announce the schedule for the long-pending elections to village committees in areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The announcement will be made at a press conference on the afternoon of August 31, 2026, addressed by State Election Commissioner Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, according to a senior election official.
Elections to these village committees have been overdue for a considerable period. Tribal parties and forums have repeatedly demanded that the polls be conducted, with one such organisation even approaching the High Court on the matter.
The polls will cover 587 village committees. The SEC has already published draft electoral rolls for these bodies.
Tipra Motha, which currently leads the TTAADC, along with Opposition parties, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of deliberately delaying the election process for political reasons. The regional party has also raised the issue with the Central government.
Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya has stated that the party will contest the village committee elections independently, without any alliance. However, sources indicate that a senior BJP leader recently approached the regional party to explore a possible tie-up.
