Tropical Storm Narra Floods Guangxi, Thousands Relocated
Tropical Storm Narra caused flash flooding in Guangxi, China, displacing thousands and prompting a Level I emergency response.
Tropical Storm Narra has unleashed heavy rains across southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, triggering flash floods that have inundated low-lying areas and disrupted daily life. State broadcaster CCTV reported that rivers surged past their banks, flooding streets in several counties and districts. Fallen trees and rockfalls have also been reported in some villages, complicating rescue efforts.
In Ningming county, the situation escalated quickly, with local authorities raising the flood-control emergency response from Level II to Level I—the highest possible alert. Water levels on the Ming River have risen above warning thresholds, and forecasts indicate that heavy to torrential rain will persist through the weekend.
The flooding has disrupted power and water supplies in parts of Ningming. Rescue teams have been deployed, using inflatable boats to evacuate residents stranded by the rising waters. According to CCTV, 3,776 people have been affected by the flooding, and 3,739 have been relocated to safer areas.
Aerial footage from the affected region shows vast areas of the city submerged, with rescue personnel navigating the flooded streets. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed as the storm continues to impact the region.
