Trump Administration Appeals Court Order to Resume Hudson Tunnel Funding

The Trump administration has filed an appeal against a court ruling that mandated the federal government to continue funding the $16 billion Hudson Tunnel Project. The appeal, submitted on Friday, comes after an appeals court rejected the administration's earlier attempt to halt payments for the project on Wednesday.

The Hudson Tunnel Project is a major infrastructure initiative aimed at constructing a new commuter rail tunnel between Manhattan and New Jersey. It also involves the repair of a century-old existing tunnel that serves over 200,000 passengers and accommodates 425 trains on a daily basis.

The funding dispute began on October 1, when the U.S. Transportation Department abruptly stopped releasing grant money for the project. This action followed a partial government shutdown, which President Donald Trump attributed to congressional Democrats. In February, a U.S. judge ordered that the payments be resumed, a decision that the administration is now contesting through the appeals process.
