Trump Dismisses AI Warnings, Vows to Keep US Ahead of China
Trump said 'very negative forces' are exaggerating AI risks and stressed he wants the US to stay the industry leader over China.
US President Donald Trump has pushed back against calls for caution over artificial intelligence, saying that a lot of "very negative forces" are raising concerns about the technology that will not come to pass.
Speaking to reporters in Doonbeg, Ireland, Trump was asked whether the AI industry should slow down or face tighter regulation. In response, he emphasised his desire to keep the United States at the forefront of the sector.
"We're leading China in AI. We're the most sophisticated country in the world, and frankly I want to keep it that way because whoever wins AI wins," he said.
Trump acknowledged that regulation is possible, noting that guardrails could be introduced. But he argued that the push for such measures is being driven by critics he described as negative forces, and that the scenarios they warn about are unlikely to occur.
The remarks place the president's preference for US technological dominance over China at the centre of his approach to AI policy, even as the debate over how far the industry should be restrained continues.
