Trump personally asks Apple to rename Lake Ontario on Maps

US President Donald Trump has personally reached out to Apple Inc. to push for the renaming of Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' on its mapping platforms, according to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. The move follows a formal presidential order to update federal databases with the new name, further straining ties between Washington and Ottawa.

Speaking on Fox Business's 'Mornings with Maria' on Monday, Burgum said, "The president reached out to Apple directly, so I'm sure that we may be seeing that change coming up soon to Lake America." The Interior Secretary's comments suggest the tech company could implement the change on its services in the near future.

Apple has not yet issued a public response to the president's request. The development comes days after Trump formally directed federal agencies to adopt the new name, adding another flashpoint to already tense US-Canada relations.

The renaming effort, which began with federal administrative action, now appears to be extending into the private sector as the administration seeks wider adoption of the new designation.
